Question:Are these products safe to give in pregnant/lactating bitches or queens?Answer:Not recommended for use in pregnant or lactating bitches or queens.
-
Question:What age can YuMOVE be given from?Answer:YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Soft Chews can be started from 8 weeks of age.
-
Question:Can YuMOVE be given to dogs with pancreatitis?Answer:Yes, there are no known contraindications. Fat level in all the chews (2.5g, 5g, 7.5g and 10g) is 12%. This level is lower than a standard food. (Compared with Hills vet essentials which is 15.3% fat)
-
Question:Can it be used on those with diabetes?Answer:No – not advised as chew contains molasses.
-
Question:Can YuMOVE be given to dogs with urinary problems?Answer:Yes. For struvite, when magnesium needs to be restricted, you can be reassured that there is 0.01g of magnesium stearate in the tablet, and only 0.0004g of magnesium. For calcium oxalate, there are very low quantities of calcium diphosphate and vitamin C in the tablet – not enough to contribute to these crystals forming. For cysteine, there is low protein in the tablet – approx. 0.2g. If the dog is on a purine restricted diet, we would suggest contacting the food manufacturers to see how much, if any, purine could be tolerated outside of the diet. As shellfish is a known source of purine, if they advise ‘none’, then we would not recommend YuMOVE.
-
Question:Are there any medical conditions where YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 would be contraindicated?Answer:YuMOVE should be fine to give most dogs who have concurrent diseases. Use in dogs with kidney disease that are on a low phosphorus diet should be monitored as there may be some phosphate present within the chew substrate. We would ask that you speak to a Lintbells representative to double check before start in the product. We would also advise against the use of YuMOVE Advance 360 Soft Chews in dogs with calcium oxalate crystals as it contains calcium carbonate, calcium propionate and the antioxidant vitamin C which may increase oxalate formation and excretion i nthe body and therefore may influence oxalate stone formation.
-
Question:Can YuMOVE be use alongside NSAIDs?Answer:Yes, this is fine. YuMOVE supports a multimodal approach to mobility issues and the Omega 3s act beneficially on the same pathways as NSAIDs, as well as additional pathways. Our post marketing surveillance and adverse event recording shows a lack of negative interaction regarding concurrent use of the two. The dosage of NSAIDs can be reviewed by a veterinarian once the dog is established on YuMOVE (e.g. after 6-8 weeks).
-
Question:Do I need to induce vomiting if they overconsume YuMOVE ADVANCE?Answer:An overdose is generally not a concern, it may result in gastrointestinal signs. We advise to treat symptomatically, monitor closely, and withdraw YuMOVE for a week before gradually introducing. Inducing emesis is not required – however, if there are pre-existing concerns about kidneys (i.e elderly dog who has recent symptoms of PU / PD) we would suggest checking bloods to ensure kidney readings are under control.
-
Question:What age can it be used from?Answer:YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 can be started at any age after weaning with a diagnoses osteoarthritis which warrants this treatment
-
Question:Can it be used on hypothyroidism?Answer:Yes – no known contraindication.
-
Question:Can it be used on those with pancreatitis?Answer:Fat level in all the chews (2.5g, 5g and 7.5g) is 12%. This level is lower than a standard food, (Compared with Hills vet essentials which is 15.3% fat). However Hills i/d canine low fat food has 8.52% fat. Given some animals with a history of pancreatitis are being fed a low fat diet the regular veterinarian will need to make a risk/benefit analysis on the use YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 chews in these cases. For reference the 12% fat equates to 0.3g of fat in the 2.5g soft chew, 0.6g of fat in the 5g soft chew, and 0.9g of fat in the 7.5g soft chew.
-
Question:Can it be used on those with diabetes?Answer:No – not advised as chew contains molasses
-
Question:Is YuMOVE safe to give to dogs on a low purine diet (for prevention of urinary stones).Answer:We have tested the purine levels in YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 tablets (our UK product) and there is a total of 1.5mg purines per tablet. This is a very small amount in relation to the total in the average canine diet. In YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Soft Chews there may also be a very small contribution from the chew substrate as well. However, to put this in perspective half a breast of chicken will contain 140mg of purines. The average dog will be getting significantly more purines from the rest of their diet than from the contribution by the YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 chews. If any individual dog has reason to be on a specific or restricted diet, it is always the case that any dietary additions like supplements are evaluated by the owner and their veterinarian for appropriateness.
-
Question:Are there any side effects?Answer:No known side-effects and no frequent adverse effects reported. However, like any new dietary change, sometimes adding YuMOVE into the dog’s diet may cause some mild gastrointestinal upset and diarrhoea in some rare cases. If this happens, it is usually mild and resolves itself. Sometimes it may be necessary to stop the YuMOVE, let the digestive system settle down and reintroduce again, but this time starting at a very low dose and building up to the label amount gradually. This will allow the digestive system time to adjust to the new dietary elements.
-
Question:Can it be used on Dogs with heart problems?Answer:There are no known interactions between YuMOVE and heart medications such as pimobendan, furosemide or benazepril. Joint and heart issues are both complications of getting older, so many of our customers need YuMOVE while on heart medications. We have had no adverse reports related to this. However, use in ill or debilitated dogs or those with specific health conditions have not been specifically studied, therefore we advise to use the product with precaution and monitor the level of effect of the product and the underlying condition closely.
-
Question:Can it be used on Dogs with kidney problems?Answer:Some dogs may be on phosphate restricted diets for this condition. There may be some phosphate present in the chew substrate which could therefore contribute phosphate to the overall diet. There may also be trace amounts of phosphate in the GLM but this is likely negligible. Though the amounts of phosphate (and therefore phosphorous) are relatively low in the YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Soft Chews, to avoid concern the customer may be best switching to YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 for Cats (as these have no added phosphate). Use 1 capsule per 5kg of the YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Cat As regards whether you use a loading dose or not (twice maintenance for 4-6weeks), this is up to the clinical judgement of the veterinary surgeon/veterinarian. Loading may fast track any potential benefits for the joints. Rarely, digestive upsets may occur which may destabilise the dog’s condition if they have advanced renal disease. We would recommend introducing gradually and then build up the dose. In summary, YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Soft Chews are a source of additional phosphate/phosphorous so its use in a dog with kidney disease would always be decided by your veterinarian on a risk vs. benefit analysis. There is always the option of using YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 for Cats as an alternative.
-
Question:Can it be used on Dogs with Liver Problems?Answer:Yes – No known contraindications.
-
Question:Can it be used on Dogs on Steroids?Answer:Yes – No known contraindications.
-
Question:Can it be used on Dogs with Cushing’s Disease?Answer:Yes, there is no known contraindication to this. Dogs with Cushing’s Disease are usually treated with Vetoryl (Trilostane) and there are no expected interactions between YuMOVE and this medicine. However, dogs with Cushing’s disease are more prone to developing other conditions such as diabetes mellitus, pancreatitis and calcium oxalate urolithiasis (calcium-based bladder stones) which may impact on the use of YuMOVE. For this reason we would always advise patients are monitored regularly by the veterinary surgeon.
-
Question:Can my client’s dog take YuMOVE if they have cystinuria (cysteine stones in bladder)? I am worried about protein content.Answer:YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Soft Chews has an average of 18.2% protein in the 2.5g, 5g and 7.5g chew. This level is below the recommended maximum of 20%. For reference, 18.2% protein equates to 0.455g of protein in the 2.5g soft chew, 0.91g of protein in the 5g soft chew and 1.365g of protein in the 7.5g soft chew.
-
Question:My client’s dog gets calcium oxalate stones and must have low calcium in their diet. Can they still use YuMOVE?Answer:We would advise against it – YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Soft Chews contains calcium carbonate, calcium propionate and the antioxidant vitamin C which may increase oxalate formation and excretion in the body, and therefore may influence oxalate stone formation.
-
Question:My client’s dog gets struvite stones and must have low magnesium in his diet. How much magnesium is there in YuMOVE?Answer:Magnesium is not added to make YuMOVE ADVANCE 360
Green lipped mussel extract may contain a tiny amount of Magnesium, but the amount is so small it is not even detectable by standard lab tests.
YuMOVE also contains ingredients that may help with bladder repair and health. The bladder wall structure depends heavily on structures called glycosaminoglycan’s (GAGs). The Green Lipped Mussel in YuMOVE contains GAGs found in the bladder (including hyaluronic acid) and also contains building blocks for a range of bladder GAGs. YuMOVE additionally contains Omega 3s (again found in the Green Lipped Mussel extract) and this can support the body’s own natural anti-inflammatory processes if bladder inflammation is present. -
Question:Can it be used on epileptic dogs?Answer:Yes – No known contraindication.
-
Question:Why do you recommend to double dose?Answer:Using the loading dose will speed up the incorporation of Omega 3 Fatty Acids into the phospholipid membranes so there should be a shorter time to see the difference.
Continue with the loading dose until the owner and vet are both happy that there is a difference, then the dose can be reduced to the maintenance dose.
Therefore, they may not need to use the loading dose for the full 4 – 6 weeks. -
Question:Can it be used alongside other medication?Answer:No known contraindications.
-
Question:How many calories per chew?Answer:The 2.5g chew contains 9kcal, the 5g chew contains 18kcal and the 7g chew contains 27kcal.
These levels are less than 2% of the dogs daily calorific requirement. -
Question:Are YuMOVE Gluten free?Answer:YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Chews may contain trace gluten from Brewers’ Yeast.
-
Question:How does Vitamin E reduce oxidative stress? What is damaged by oxidative stress? Is it protecting the omegas?Answer:Oxidative stress results from an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants. There are plenty of papers (mostly human ones) showing the role of oxidative stress in the pathology of OA.
Free radicals cause damage to DNA, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids.
Vitamin E helps because it is an antioxidant, it can donate an electron to a free radical to neutralize it.
The anti-oxidant (Rosemary extract) is there to protect the Omega 3 fatty acids in the tablet against oxidation.
The vitamin E is there to reduce oxidative stress in the body but would help protect the Omega 3 fatty acids if all the Rosemary was used up (unlikely). -
Question:Where does the Hyaluronic Acid come from?Answer:The hyaluronic acid we use is produced in a factory under controlled conditions by a natural fermentation process of plant derived glucose. It is therefore from a plant source.
-
Question:What does the hyaluronic acid in the product do?Answer:Hyaluronic acid is a vital part of the joint fluid inside the joint and helps with mobility. Given orally it can support the structure and composition of the synovial fluid which lubricates and cushions the joint.
YuMOVE contains a certain type of HA which is proven to reach the joints in just 2 hours (Balogh et al 08) -
Question:What are Glycosaminoglycan’s (GAGs)?Answer:In simple terms, GAGs are chains of molecules that string together and attach to proteins in the joint to make up the substance of cartilage. GAGs attract water into the cartilage and give it its flexibility and cushioning nature to withstand the forces in the joint and protect the ends of the bones. GAGs also make up an important part of the joint fluid which lubricates the joint. Glucosamine is a building block molecule for the GAG chains.
-
Question:Why doesn’t the product contain shark cartilage?Answer:This is not a sustainable or ethical source, also there is more evidence for efficacy of GLM for structure and Omega 3 EFA’s.
-
Question:Why is there no MSM in there?Answer:MSM is Methylsulfonylmethane and is marketed as an anti- inflammatory and antioxidant for the joint. It is a dietary source of Sulphur. With regards to dogs, they consume sulphur in their normal diet and there is far more evidence showing benefits of Omega 3 and GLM in OA for anti-inflammatory purposes. Regarding antioxidant effects, the Vitamin C & Vitamin E are added to YuMOVE to provide this function. For MSM it is in fact not known what the effective dose in dogs is as there are no canine trials showing clinical improvement in OA. In horses, there is more convincing evidence for benefits. This may be because the dog’s diet is naturally sufficient in Sulphur content as this is plentiful in meat protein products. As regards horses, providing extra Sulphur to their herbivorous diet may offer additional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support. Essentially in dogs the key is that GLM is a more scientifically established ingredient than MSM for aiding the body’s own anti-inflammatory process, so we use this instead of MSM. There is a far higher weight of evidence for the other ingredients we do include in YuMOVE and this is now supported by the RVC clinical trial that shows YuMOVE has a clinical benefit.
-
Question:What are the key differences between this and other joint supplements?Answer:
- Quality- Ingredient sourcing and ingredient evidence base e.g. GLM is from the best source in New Zealand with the highest EFA levels and the HA used is the type shown in studies to be rapidly and efficiently absorbed.
- YuMOVE is a comprehensive joint supplement, not only does it support the structure, but it also has naturally anti-inflammatory Omega 3s and supports general mobility.
- It is clinically proven to support mobility in just 6 weeks
- Affordable
- Easy to use, it is palatable and just one chew per day after the loading dose.
-
Question:What is different about ActivEase Green Lipped Mussel?Answer:The GLM in YuMOVE is very special. It is the highest quality GLM that can be found in a joint supplement (pet or human). It is specially sourced from one particular mussel farming area in New Zealand and the extract is produced from the mussels via a patented vacuum extraction process. If you look on a product label and simply see ‘Green Lipped Mussel’, this doesn’t tell you much. You need to ask the manufacturer for more detail. Many GLM products contain GLM powder that has been ‘de-fatted’. This means it does not contain the important essential fatty acids ETA, EPA and DHA that make it effective for joint problems. Our GLM contains the highest level of EFAs possible and over 4 times more than the standard freeze-dried preparation.
-
Question:Why do you have glucosamine hydrochloride and not sulphate?Answer:We have glucosamine hydrochloride because the hydrochloride molecule is smaller than the sulphate molecule, which means that weight per weight you get 20% more active glucosamine with the hydrochloride form. Also, the sulphate form is less stable and requires salt (either potassium chloride or sodium chloride) to stabilize it. We want an ingredient with as minimal impurities as possible, so use the hydrochloride form.
-
Question:Why are you using a vegetarian/plant source of glucosamine?Answer:There is high global demand for glucosamine and the majority of it come from crushing seafood shells and extracting glucosamine via a water-based method. The majority of this happens in China. The seafood shells may have significant levels of heavy metals, such as mercury, and with the extraction method these may contaminate the end glucosamine product. Heavy metals have obvious health implications and ingestion should be avoided. Therefore, we use an FDA-approved vegetarian source to avoid contamination with heavy metals. Our glucosamine is safe and 98.8% pure.
-
Question:My clients dog seems vastly improved in just 2 weeks on YuMOVE ADVANCE 360, should they exercise him/her normally?Answer:This depends on the severity and nature of their dog’s condition. The GLM in YuMOVE aids the dog’s own natural inflammatory response quickly in the first few weeks and the dog may start to feel better and be willing to do more. However, it takes a little longer for the other ingredients, and the dog’s body, to help with the structure of the joint. Therefore, it is important to make any changes to their exercise routine gradually and if increasing exercise amounts to do this slowly and sensibly.
-
Question:What are the advantages to using YuMOVE instead of an NSAID or of reducing the dosage of an NSAID?Answer:There are no known significant side effects to using YuMOVE, but there are with NSAIDs. NSAIDs may irritate the lining of the gut and in some cases cause ulceration. Other concerns involve NSAID use in older pets as their kidneys and liver may not be working as well as younger animals and this fact may mean that the organs are not able to tolerate NSAIDs as well and potentially they may be damaged.
-
Question:Why is there more EFA in YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Dog compared with YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Cat?Answer:There isn’t – on a bodyweight basis it is almost the same A 10kg dog would have one tablet containing 220 mg GLM, 140 mg fish oil powder, 5 mg Vitamin E A 4–5kg cat would have one capsule containing 120 mg GLM, 60 mg fish oil powder, 2 mg Vitamin E
-
Question:Why is the amount of Vitamin E increased by 1000% in YuMOVE ADVANCE 360 Dog and only 200% in YA360 Cat?Answer:The amount of Vitamin E is calculated by the amount of Omega-3 fatty acid in the product. More Omega-3 fatty acid means more Vitamin E.
-
Question:How has YuMOVE Cat been specifically formulated to help aid cats’ needs?Answer:YuMOVE Cat is Vitamin C free. It contains all the other active ingredients in YuMOVE to support the cat’s joints.
